Washington Research Associates Inc. was founded in 1994 by Joseph Ryan in downtown Washington DC as an economic/financial research firm. Six years ago, Washington Research Associates narrowed its focus, and now specializes in employment screening. Its clientele consists primarily of small to medium-sized business firms, law firms, and academic institutions. The company now has over 50 research associates.

WRA has found an important niche in providing quality employment screening to smaller business and professional firms whose concern is reliability, thoroughness and legal-compliance. Such firms recognize that "instant" or ultra-low-cost employment screening reports, which rely on often-outdated databases, are simply inadequate to their needs and may lack full compliance with the federal FCRA, which mandates the use of "timely" data in employment screening.

Joseph Ryan holds a Master's in economics from Ohio State University and has had over twenty years experience as a senior economist and statistician with the federal government, as a college teacher, and as a consultant to industry.
